I Quit My Job To Launch My Passion - And So Can YOU!
While so many people around me were losing their jobs, collecting pink slips, and filing for unemployment, I QUIT. I consciously decided that I was leaving my job - one that I held at a company I had been with for over ten years. Leaving Corporate America was not an easy decision by any means. The idea to even leave came at the most unexpected time and in the most unexpected way. I was in a new role for about 6 months, when I had a conversation that would forever change the way I look at my experience and future.
The role I was in was proving to be less then challenging for me, and while I loved the people I was working with, I knew I was capable of so much more. My role prior to this one involved a large scope of responsibility, decision making, strategic planning and managing a team of people. I suddenly found myself looking around wondering what had happened to all of my hard work, experience and reputation as top talent. This new role didn’t call for me to make any important decisions, deliver performance reviews, or even take part in conference calls. For the first time in my professional career, I felt like I was lost and failing…fast.
One thing I’ve always observed throughout my time in Corporate America, is that we’re not that good at helping people progress along a career path. We don’t typically ask what they like and don’t like about their current role, and we certainly don’t dare ask if they would be happier going to another team, department or even company. Oftentimes talented people are failed. They’re failed by a lack of encouragement, opportunities and discussions around what they know and how they can do bigger and better things with it. Instead, we focus on the job at hand, and keep chugging along. Getting through each day, hoping that all of our talented and top performers are happy enough to stick around a little longer. We’re almost afraid to even ask what they want to do next, because it may not be what we need them for. People are a company’s most valuable asset. Sir Richard Branson said it best, “The way you treat your employees is the way they will treat your customers.” Isn’t it better to train and keep good people rather than lose them and go through the process and cost again?
In my new role I constantly challenged myself—what did I really know? After some soul searching I had an epiphany. I realized that what I had lived and breathed over the course of my career WAS my passion. And that is when I had the conversation that forever changed my professional direction.
Deciding to leave the company that I grew up in was one of biggest decisions I’ve ever made. The security, the continuity, the routine. It was all going to change.
Some days I woke up feeling better than ever about the future, and other days, I was positive I had officially lost my mind.
The single most important factor that kept me moving toward my decision was knowing that I was leaving so I could get back to what I knew was my passion—helping other women grow, succeed and build their networks for success.
How could I fail at something that I love doing so much and at which had always been successful?
Well, thanks to monthly and yearly goals, some may say the answer to that remains to be seen.
But knowing what it feels like to want to launch my passion, yet having the fears that are so naturally instilled in us when it comes to making any change is the exact reason I want to help other kick ass women take their ideas from passion to reality.
I, too, know what it feels like to want the help, want to make the investment to become better, yet be afraid to ask or make the monetary commitment.
When you think about leaving your safety net - you contemplate every single decision you make.
That’s why I took my knowledge of successful business practices, along with my own personal experience of leaving Corporate America and turned it into a course for any kick ass woman who is looking to do the same.
Whether you are ready to make the leap, or have already taken it and just don’t know where to go from here, this course was created to make a high impact on your passion, without forcing you to make a huge monetary investment to do what you love.
